Bur Oak

SKU: LMN42931007

Quercus macrocarpa

The Bur Oak, known for its stately presence, offers dense shade and withstands pollution and heat stress, making it ideal for urban and rural landscapes alike. This medium to large deciduous tree typically reaches 60–80 feet tall with a rounded, spreading crown. Its alternating leaves span 6–12 inches, featuring 5–9 lobes and uniquely deep sinuses that enhance its ornamental appeal. The Bur Oak yields large, fringed acorns with a distinctive cap covering about half the nut, adding texture and interest to the tree. Known as the “Mossycup Oak,” this oak species can live over 200–300 years, often reaching legendary status due to its age and size. Though challenging to transplant, the Bur Oak is a majestic addition to any landscape and is one of North America’s most iconic native oaks.
